Housed in a former textile mill, the South Carolina State Museum chronicles 14,000 years of the state’s cultural heritage, displaying artifacts ranging from ancient stone tools to the first mass-produced automobile in the state. Some museum highlights are dioramas depicting scenes from the state’s history. The museum lies a few blocks west of the State Capitol.
